OCP artist-in residence Sarah Mirk invites you to a free screening of No Straight Lines. The screening takes place on July 8 at Books with Pictures in Portland.
In Sarah’s own words: The documentary “No Straight Lines” tells the story of “five scrappy and pioneering cartoonists who depicted everything from the AIDS crisis, coming out, and same-sex marriage, to themes of race, gender, and disability.” The film features several Portlanders, along with comics legends like Alison Bechdel. A collaborative comics-making activity will start at 7:30pmish and the one-hour movie will begin between 8-9pm, whenever it is dark enough to see the screen. Bring your drawing supplies and sketchbooks!
The film includes drawings of genitalia and honest discussions of sexuality. I would recommend it for ages 14+. Feel free to read more about the movie and watch the trailer here: https://nostraightlinesthefilm.com/
