In partnership with Northwest Animation Festival, Oregon Cartoon Institute presented an evening of films by Oregon born experimental animator Harry Smith (1923 – 1991) accompanied by a panel discussion about Smith’s life and work. The event took place at the Hollywood Theatre on May 16, 2013, the night before the 3rd annual Northwest Animation Festival began. Films were introduced by Rani Singh, director of the Harry Smith Archives at the Getty Institute; Derrin Daniel, author of Harry Smith, Fragments Of A Northwest Life; and Sheldon Renan, author of A Guide to American Underground Filmmaking. All three speakers knew Harry Smith personally.
